Congratulations to Megan Finan for being chosen as our Athlete of the Month for March 2016! Megan is a consistent trainee and along with her hard work, always has a smile on her face.
How long have you been doing Crossfit?
I joined DelVal in September 2014, so I have been doing Crossfit for about a year and a half.
Can you tell us your game plan for how you achieved your first chin-up?
Achieving a strict chin up was one of my goals early on, and it took a lot of practice for me. I worked on it a few days a week before class with resistance bands. It took me about 3 to 4 months to get one. Now chin-ups are one of my favorite things to do!
What's one piece of advice or one tip that a Del Val coach gave you which has stuck with you?
Rob: "Just show up". He stresses the importance of consistency with making progress towards your goals. I make it a priority to get there four times per week. If I am dealing with a minor injury or something is aggravated, all of the coaches are so great about giving a modified workout, so you don't have to miss out.
Name two of the most memorable PR's you've set.
1.) I was super excited to do Cindy "RX" recently
2.) Deadlifting 200 lbs.
We always see you coming in to do extra lifting along with taking Crossfit classes. What are your current goals?
I put Crossfit classes on hold for a couple months this past Fall and focused on lifting to build up my base strength. My current goal is to keep up with the Crossfit classes and push myself to do them "RX" as much as possible. Lots of other little goals to go along with that (too many to list!).
With two kids, how do you find time to balance fitness and family?
I am lucky that my work schedule is a little unusual, so I get to the gym while the kids are at school. Otherwise, Sean and I stagger classes and trade off kids to each other. Looking forward to doing classes with my girls as they get older!
What do you enjoy most about going to the same box as your husband?
1.) I love seeing the progress Sean has made since he joined last year.
2.) Healthy meal preps are much easier with two people.
3.) He shares my need for all of the latest gear.
What is your favorite cheat food and dessert?
My favorite cheat food is Freddy's double steak burger with a Coke, and fries. And the fries at the bottom of the bag. And the fries that the kids don't finish.
My favorite dessert is gummy bears. I don't think that's technically a dessert but they are delicious and you can't argue that.
Favorite non-Crossfit activity?
Baking cookies and shopping for sneakers.
Favorite thing about Del Val?
The people! Join Del Val and you will have 25 new Facebook friends in a week! Seriously though, the members and coaches are genuinely an awesome and supportive group of people. Burpees can be somewhat fun when you have your friends doing them with you. A close second to the people is coffee and cake day.
Any extra comments?
The last 18 months have been such a great experience for me at Del Val. A huge thank you to the coaches for your guidance and patience with me and help in achieving my fitness goals. The progress is coming along and I am excited to see what the future brings!
