Tom began his athletic journey at around five years old playing soccer and baseball for the Springfield Athletic Association (SAA). Baseball eventually took a backseat and his focus turned full-time to soccer, playing a year up in travel leagues and eventually playing for Springfield High School Varsity, where the team made it to the semifinals in playoffs. That same year, he was also a volunteer coach for a team of 4th, 5th and 6th grade kids for the SAA as part of his senior project in High School. During this time Tom discovered both his love of the weight room, and his passion for helping others get better in a team environment.
Since he was 17 years old, Tom has been in the weight room. For the last decade he has dabbled in bodybuilding, strongman, powerlifting, where he achieved a powerlifting total of 1080lbs (490kg) as a 74kg lifter, and finally, CrossFit. “My first class ever was THE BEAR. 5 rounds of 7 reps of 1 Power Clean, 1 Front Squat, 1 Push Press, 1 Back Squat, and 1 Push Press. All movements I knew... yet it absolutely buried and humbled me. The whole room was cheering me on without even knowing my name. I was hooked immediately.”
As his love for CrossFit grew, both from an exercise standpoint as well as a community, Tom decided to finally follow his passion of becoming a coach and personal trainer. “Ever since I volunteered to coach a soccer team when I was in High School I have missed that feeling of helping people get better at something they love. CrossFit has given me that chance again.”
Aside from CrossFit, Tom works at Azie in Media, where he manages and serves tables. Over the last 7 years there, he has found a passion for cooking and trying new foods. He is the oldest of six children, loves animals of all kinds, Star Wars and Game of Thrones.
